ext to the metropolitan see stands the monumental 16th century USPENSKIY CATHEDRAL, whose interior can only be seen during services. Much of what is wonderful in Rostov is tied to lona Sysoyevich. Not just the architectural complex of the Rostov Kremlin, but also the famous belfry of the Uspenskiy Cathedral, built upon the tzar's decree in 1682-87. The belfry has 15 bells in all, with the largest, Sysoy, weighing 32 tonnes. The toll of these bells is heard 20 kilometres away.
