The Golden Ring of Russia - Short Tour. ViaggiareinRussia.com. The Golden Ring is a chain of small ancient towns situated to the North-East of Moscow and forming a ring. It is one of the oldest and most popular tourist routes through the Russian provinces. All towns along the way were built between XI-XVII centuries and are often called the museums under open sky. During this tour you will view the unique monuments of Russian architecture and observe the life of Russian provinces, unhurried and calm.


Day 1

Departure from Moscow to Vladimir by car/bus 09:00 am.
Arrival to Vladimir.
The history of the town goes back over one thousand years. It was founded in 990s by Prince Vladimir on the bank of the river Klyasma. The rise of Vladimir began under Andrey Bogolubsky, the son of Yuri Dolgoruky who founded Moscow.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Vladimir city tour
- you will visit the XII century monuments - the Uspensky and Dmitrovsky Cathedrals (one of the oldest Russian functioning churches), view the famous Golden Gates and go to the Museum of crystal and varnished minature.
Excursion to Bogolyubovo - a former residence of Andrey Bogolyubsky. Visit to Svyato-Bogolyubsky Monastery and Pokrova-na-Nerli Church - a real masterpiece of the old Russian architecture built in 1164.
Departure to Suzdal. - Fabulously ancient and wonderfully adorned, Suzdal occipies a special place among the other Russian towns. The entire town is a museum which has hardly changed for the past two and a half centuries. Over one hundred monuments, dating from different periods of the past millennium are concentrated here.

Day 2

Breakfast.

- you will visit the Kremlin, the ancient trading rows and Kresovaya Palata, visit the unique museum of wooden architecture, see lots of big and small churches and listen to the bells' concert in Spaso-Efimievsky monastery.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Departure to Kostroma
- The town was firstly mentioned in the cronicles in 1237. It was the first stop of Mongol-Tatars on their way to sacking Yaroslavl in 1238. Contemporary Kostroma is a picturesque city with a strong historical atmosphere.

Day 3

Breakfast.

- visit to the Ipatiev Monastery - a real miracle of architecture, the Romanov's Palace, Trade Galleries.
Departure to Yaroslavl. Though the city is the biggest and most active one on the route, it has conserved a nice style of province life. Yaroslavl has a rich collection of histprical and art monuments, it is also known for the wall-paintings in cathedrals and churches.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Yaroslavl city tour
- visit to the famous Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery and the Ilya-Prophet Church.

Day 4

Breakfast.
Departure to Rostov the Great.
Rostov is one of the oldest cities on the route, situated by the beautiful lake Nero. The enormous cathedral of the XVI century and its "metropoly" are considered to be the ancient city center, so called "Rostov Kremlin". Its towers impress by their white-stone architecture. The town is also famous for the "Rostov Finift".

Photo stop in Pereslavl-Zalesskiy.
This charming town, located nearby the wonderful Plescheevo lake, looks as if there was more ild ancient churches than hotels, cafes and shops all together. The most ancient monument of the North East Russia, Saviour-Transfuguration Cathedral, is situated here.
Departure to Sergiev Posad. The town was named after Saint Sergey Radonezhsky. In the XIV century he founded a monastery here that became one of the greatest in Russia. Nowadays the monastery carries the name of Trinity Lavra of St. Sergey and is considered to be "Russian Vatican". It's a temporary residence of Russian patriarch.
